In today’s hectic fast-paced environment, people want and need a place to decompress and leave the cares of work behind them. Even if you work from home, you need a space that allows you to unplug from the stress of the day and unwind. Developing your own inviting space can help you do just that!
Through the years, I have always enjoyed making wherever we called home, a place that was warm, inviting, and peaceful. I love texture, color, and space that transforms the apartment, condo, or house into a welcoming oasis my family and I could relax in and just be ourselves.
Here are a few ways I have found to make your home a place you, your family, and friends want to be in. Bear in mind that YOU get to be the Picasso of your own home and these are just some of the ways I use to make a home a reflection of my own personality.
1) Choose a color palette that will be the general theme throughout the entire home. Your color palette is the blank slate for you to create on. These should be colors that work well together and develop a sense of calm. You can never go wrong with neutrals, and they allow you to add color and texture throughout your home without breaking the bank. You can also add accent walls using a complementary color of paint or wallpaper.
2) Define each space with an area rug which if you have a small space can make your space appear to be larger and more spacious than it really is. If you have a larger space it can make your entire home feel warmer and more inviting.
3) Curtains or window dressings are another way to help transform your individual space. Hanging your curtain rods near the ceiling instead of just above the window is one way to add openness to your space.
4) Lighting helps to define your personal style and also add warmth and dimensional interest to your home. Lamps of different shapes, sizes, and textures are fun ways to add to your room!
5) Accessories is where I like to add my pops of color for visual interest and personality. Artwork, pillows, and throws can draw guests into each room and entice them to feel comfortable and at home.
I hope that you have found some of these suggestions helpful as you begin to embark on an exciting adventure in creating artistic and comfortable spaces to enjoy with friends and family. I look forward to seeing what you do with your home, so please send me before and after photos! I want to get to know each and every one of you.
